GeForce NOW games are running from the cloud, which means they are running on a server in a data center, not directly from your SHIELD.
If you experience a reduction in streaming quality or lag, you may wish to try these tips to improve it:
Update your SHIELD software and NVIDIA Games app to the latest version. We are constantly improving our software.
Check to see if other devices in your home are connected to the Internet and downloading files. Anything that uses significant bandwidth, such as streaming video, downloading files, and file sharing can affect GeForce NOW performance. Try disabling these to improve your experience.
If possible, switch to a wired network.
If you are using a wireless network, follow these tips:
o Use an NVIDIA SHIELD Ready 5 GHz Wi-Fi router. http://shield.nvidia.com/routers. These products have been tested to work with GeForce NOW.
o Upgrade your router's firmware to the latest version.
o Make sure you are connecting to your router at 5 GHz mode. Newer routers allow users to connect at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The router's settings menu should allow you to set up a separate SSID for 5 GHz mode.
o Move closer to your Wi-Fi router. The farther away you are from your router, the lower the signal, which will degrade your Wi-Fi performance.
o Try to get better line of sight to your router. Obstacles inside your home, such as walls and floors, can affect Wi-Fi performance
o Use Android or iOS apps like "WiFi Analyzer" to find unused Wi-Fi channels in your home.
Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may be experiencing network congestion at certain times of the day. You can run the GeForce NOW network test to check your speeds at different times during the day and see if your performance changes. You can access this under NVIDIA games app > Settings > Service Location > Test Location. If this continues to happen, you may want to consider switching ISPs.
Check your home network to see how many routers, switches, or hubs are between your cable modem and your SHIELD Device . Each network component can add latency to your overall experience, which can result in lag.
Only use the NVIDIA SHIELD Controller . Third party game controllers may introduce latency.
Some TV models can add lag to GeForce NOW because they perform video image preprocessing. Please check if your TV has a "Game Mode" setting, which may help to reduce lag. Please note that not all TVs work the same in Game Mode, so check with your TV manufacturer on how to turn off image preprocessing modes on your TV.
